Archway in St. Cyprian School Multipurpose Hall & Aquatic Centre, designed by MEYER & ASSOCIATES

Cape Institute of Architects Recognises Meyer And Associates With Commendation Award for St. Cyprian School Project

St. Cyprian School Multipurpose Hall & Aquatic Centre Design

Meyer & Associates, South-African based architectural and urban designers, received an award at the Cape Institute for Architecture ceremony for the design of the St. Cyprian School Multipurpose Hall & Aquatic Centre.

The Cape Institute for Architecture, established in 1899, is the largest regional architecture body in South Africa, promoting architectural excellence and integrity. The award recognizes Meyer & Associates’ dedication to delivering creative, pro-active, and responsive design solutions, with a focus on equitable access and social inclusion.

The design is characterized by a prominent use of brick in its façade, giving it a robust and enduring appearance. Noteworthy is the positioning of the aquatic center beneath the multipurpose hall. Meyer & Associates incorporated large windows to illuminate the space and used a wrap-around corridor for passive shading. This approach strikes a balance between natural lighting and privacy.

Another significant aspect is the use of steel structures to support the roof, the hall’s slab above and creating spacious, unobstructed areas for various activities.
