Design Partnership crafted a retro-industrial workplace design that goes beyond aesthetics, embodying SEACOM’s vision of African connectivity and the power of communities to bring people together. The design seamlessly merges the digital realm with the physical, pushing the boundaries of workplace design to foster creativity and unity in every corner.

The main principle of this design is the emphasis on well-being. Design Partnership meticulously designed every corner to prioritize comfort and acoustics, from curated finishes to harmonious soundscapes. Another important aspect is empowerment, offering a variety of spaces for individuals to select the ambiance they prefer, from lively work cafes to calming wellness rooms. This retro-industrial workplace design accommodates diverse needs, whether it’s a brainstorming session or a moment of solitude.

The color palette used in this retro-industrial workplace design creates a warm and inviting backdrop. Beige, brown, and black serve as the base colors, with pops of vibrant hues introduced in various spaces to align with their functions. For example, pops of blue can be found in the reception area through single casual seats, signage walls, and ceiling accents. Green takes center stage in the kitchenette with retro tiles for the backsplash and the green and orange upholstery and wallpaper in the work cafe.

In terms of flooring, wood was predominantly used throughout the workspace, except where noise control was a consideration, such as in the meeting room and wellness rooms, where carpets were employed.

One striking design feature of this retro-industrial workplace design is the HVAC ceiling hoisted system, which was left visible to contribute to the industrial ambiance of the space. The only exception to this is the meeting room, where the ceiling was covered with suspended boards.

The choice of furniture is as diverse as the spaces themselves. Minimal blue armless single sofas welcome guests in the reception area, while brown leather bar stools grace the kitchenette. Built-in booth seats can be found in the corridor and the cafe. However, one standout piece is the Private Workspace Sofa, which integrates a small working table, high backrest, and arm for privacy, providing a comfortable and private space for focused work or relaxation.

Another noteworthy item in this retro-industrial workplace design is the stool paired with an adjustable desk in the working corner. This adjustable stool features a concave seat for enhanced comfort and functionality, matching the color of the walls.

To bring a touch of nature into this retro-industrial workplace design, Design Partnership extensively incorporated indoor plants throughout the space. Indoor plants not only enhance the aesthetics of the workspace but also contribute to improved air quality and the well-being of the occupants.
