The competition calls for submissions of designs for a limited edition collection, harnessing reclaimed materials from the renowned Muizenberg Huts refurbishment project.
The competition was first announced on Always Welcome’s social media platforms, with the company expressing its enthusiasm for collaborating with local designers. The caption detailed the aim of the competition, highlighting the utilization of salvaged wood from the iconic Muizenberg Beach Huts.
The winning designs will be prominently featured at various exhibitions, including the prestigious 100% Design Africa event in Johannesburg. Furthermore, the pieces will be showcased at future exhibitions across Europe in 2024, offering an exceptional opportunity for exposure on an international stage.
Due to overwhelming interest and to encourage broader participation, Always Welcome recently announced an extension of the submission deadline to April 15th. The decision to extend the deadline was made in collaboration with Circular Squared Collective, with whom Always Welcome is partnering to launch the winning designs at the inaugural Sustainable Design Week Africa 2024.
