Cabo Beach Club, located in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, was designed by KT Interior, to transform an industrial dock space into a refined beachside destination.
South African Interior Architects, KT Interior, developed a multi-zoned environment for Cabo Beach Club that blends coastal aesthetics with a sophisticated atmosphere, featuring spaces ranging from a Miami-inspired beach bar to a members’ lounge. The project aimed to integrate natural materials, oceanic motifs, and artistic collaborations to create a visually engaging and functional space. The seaside retreat can be described as successfully balancing luxury and relaxation.

The design phase of Cabo Beach Club began in June 2021, with completion set for December 2021. This six-month timeline required careful planning to ensure that the vision was realized within the available timeframe. The design sought to merge the industrial history of the site with the tranquility of a beach retreat. The team explains:
The design was driven by the idea of creating an urban oasis—merging the industrial nature of the port with the serene atmosphere of a beach retreat. To evoke a sense of escape while honoring the site’s distinctive context, the design used natural materials, oceanic motifs, and various color schemes.

Cabo Beach Club consists of multiple areas, each with a distinct function and aesthetic. The restaurant and oyster deck feature polished plaster walls, bespoke furniture, and custom lighting to create an upscale dining experience. The pool and poolside bar provide a relaxed, open setting with ocean views. A beach dining area was designed to function as both a dining space and an event venue. The members’ lounge incorporates vintage and custom-designed furniture for a more intimate setting, while a sunken lounge and private boardroom were designed for smaller gatherings.

The project presented several challenges, particularly in working with an aging structure that required mechanical and safety upgrades. KT Interior addressed these constraints by repurposing elements of the existing structure while focusing on key design features that would have the most visual impact. The team describes this approach:
One of the biggest challenges was working within a pre-existing, aging structure that required significant upgrades to meet mechanical and safety regulations. This led to budget constraints for decorative and furnishing elements. The solution involved repurposing existing structures and prioritizing key design features that maximized visual impact.
Artistic collaborations played a central role in shaping the design of Cabo Beach Club, with hand-painted murals, sculptural lighting, and custom furniture incorporated throughout the space. These design elements contributed to the character of the club while maintaining a consistent aesthetic. The lighting scheme was developed to complement the overall design, incorporating rope lights, glass ball pendants, and other custom installations.

Sustainability was a key consideration, with repurposed materials incorporated to reduce waste. Local artisans contributed to the furnishings and decorative elements, further integrating Cabo Beach Club with its surroundings while supporting craftsmanship. These approaches aligned with broader efforts to create a resource-conscious design without compromising on quality or experience.

The completed Cabo Beach Club presents a combination of industrial and coastal influences, with a layout that accommodates different experiences within a unified theme. KT Interior’s approach aimed to create a space that is adaptable for dining, socializing, and private events, making it a versatile addition to Cape Town’s hospitality landscape. The design highlights the relationship between environment and experience, resulting in a setting that reflects both the energy of its location and the sense of escape that defines a beachside retreat.
