Tola Akerele Appointed Director General of Nigeria’s National Theatre

In a significant development for Nigeria’s cultural landscape, accomplished interior designer Tola Akerele has been appointed as the Director General of the National Theatre. With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Akerele seamlessly blends her passion for African arts and culture.

Holding a degree in Economics and Politics from Bristol University, she has contributed her expertise to renowned institutions in investment banking, including Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, and BNP Paribas.

Akerele, a graduate of the Parson School of Design in New York and the KLC School of Design in London, founded iDesign, an Interior Design firm based in Lagos, Nigeria. She’s also the founder of iDESIGN Art, a platform promoting high-quality, affordable art. Her visionary leadership was evident during her tenure as the Secretary-General of the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN) from March 2017 to December 2019. She later served as the Vice President from January 2019, contributing significantly to the organization’s growth.

Expressing her excitement on Instagram, Tola Akerele shared, “Thrilled to share that I’ve been appointed as the Director General of the National Theatre!
