Shade and Colour: Honey Comb Apartments in Slovenia by OFIS Architecture

The winning entry for a competition to design two tourist housing blocks, sees OFIS Architecture, employ simple and smart planning and design strategies to deliver 30 functional and affordable apartments at a cost of € 700 per sq m.

Its both economically efficient and functionally flexible as no structural elements are placed within the apartments, which are of different sizes and structures.
The development sits on a site of 60 x 28 m which are set out on a hill with a view of the Izola Bay on one side and surrounding hills and vista on the other.
Each of the apartments have a uniquely designed terrace that provides an intimate outdoor space that flows seamlessly from indoors. Naturally Ventilated, the terrace features a semi-transparent textile shade that not only provides much needed shade from the Mediterranean climate, but also a good degree of privacy. The textile shades carry varying colours which add to the ambience of each of the apartments but ultimately make the facade of the building a sight to behold. Strong geometry, varying textures and bold colours characterise the elevations of the blocks, creating something striking and engaging for a tightly budgeted project.
Each of the balcony modules are designed as an efficient system, that provides, shade, ventilation and privacy adding great value to an affordable housing project.
