SAOTA’s innovative architecture project, Meru, has won the prestigious award for Future Projects – House at the 2024 World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Singapore. This award-winning architecture project is inspired by the Meru Oak tree and Swahili lifestyle, reinterpreting traditional kraal architecture.
The design emphasizes sustainability through passive cooling, clay-based construction, and screened facades – creating a harmonious oasis near Mombasa, Kenya. Principal Philippe Fouché highlights the use of locally sourced materials, such as sun-dried bricks and coral stone, in this forward-thinking design.
The WAF award, one of the most esteemed in architecture, celebrates innovative, unbuilt residential projects. SAOTA’s win represents their first official WAF recognition, affirming their global influence in sustainable and adaptive architecture.

Judged by a panel of over 140 industry experts, the competition featured entries from leading firms worldwide, further elevating SAOTA’s reputation for exceptional, award-winning architecture projects.
