Centre Des Cultures Et Spiritualités Ewés – New Cultural Landmark By Kere Architecture Under Construction In Togo

Kere Architecture’s latest project, Centre des Cultures et Spiritualités Ewés (CCSE) is currently taking shape in the heart of Notsé, Togo. The new cultural landmark promises to be an iconic celebration of Ewé culture and heritage.

Commissioned by the Kothor Foundation, the Centre des Cultures et Spiritualités Ewés will be a vibrant hub of cultural activity, featuring a sanctuary, temples, an open-air amphitheater, exhibition halls, and a reconstruction of the ancient royal palace of the Ewé Kingdom. The buildings will be constructed using locally sourced red laterite brick, a durable and sustainable material perfectly suited to Togo’s climate.

The center aims to offer new perspectives on the history, ancestral rites, and traditions of the Ewé people.

According to the architects, the master plan is centered around the historic Agbogbo wall, a sacred structure that holds great significance for the Ewé people. The wall, originally built to protect against the threat of enslavement, remains a powerful symbol of resilience and identity.
