Guest Artists Space (GAS) Foundation, a non-profit artist residency founded by Yinka Shonibare, invites art and culture enthusiasts to “In Pieces,” a collage workshop scheduled to hold on Monday, September 9, 2024. The workshop will open opportunities for participants to explore memory, identity, and personal histories.
Championed by current GAS Foundation resident, Ana Ogunsanya, the workshop session will begin with a presentation showcasing the works of Billie Zangewa, Deborah Roberts, and other iconic Black female artists. This will be followed by exercises allowing participants to create their own autoethnography collages.

The announcement comes on the heels of the recently concluded GAS Foundation’s Annotations Programme, “Into the Timeline: A Research Collage of Pan-African Festivals,” which gave six research associates the opportunity to investigate Pan-African festivals like FESTAC ’77 through African archival collections.

Rated alongside the Rome Prize, Tulsa Artist Fellowship, and Camargo Foundation, among other prominent names, as one of the top 35 artists’ residencies worldwide, GAS Foundation boasts an impressive collection of projects dedicated to facilitating international artistic exchange.

According to the organizers, the workshop is free, but places are limited; therefore, it is essential for applicants to apply to secure one of the available spots. Visit GAS Foundation official website here for more details on the event.
