New Residential Development In Sharjah With Over 2,500 Homes Shared By Mariam Issoufo Architects

Mariam Issoufo Architects recently shared details of Hayyan, a residential development in Sharjah, UAE, designed to provide over 2,500 townhomes and villas.

This project aims to create a strong sense of community while reflecting the region’s architectural heritage. The design is inspired by traditional elements found in Sharjah, particularly the use of coral stone, which has been reinterpreted to meet modern living needs.

The Hayyan residential development features various communal spaces that promote outdoor engagement and well-being. Safe walkways connect neighborhoods, while edible gardens and sports areas encourage residents to interact with their surroundings. Additionally, a lifestyle center within the development will offer essential services, including restaurants, a gym, and retail outlets, making everyday conveniences easily accessible for residents.

The facade of the Hayyan residences draws inspiration from Sharjah’s architectural heritage, particularly the traditional use of coral stone. This historical material has been reimagined with contemporary techniques to create seven distinct patterns across the development, providing both aesthetic appeal and functional benefits.

For Hayyan, which has over 2500 townhomes and villas, we leaned into this use of façade designs to create seven different patterns which would serve as a way to identify different housing types within the development.

Central to the project is the Hayyan Mosque, designed as a community space for prayer and reflection, providing an environment for both individual contemplation and communal gatherings. The mosque complements the overall design, enhancing the focus on community interaction.

The architects have prioritized natural ventilation throughout the development, aiming to reduce energy consumption and create comfortable indoor and outdoor environments. Attention has also been given to the usability of spaces during the nighttime, recognizing the high daytime temperatures typical of the Sharjah climate. The design facilitates a welcoming atmosphere for families, ensuring that residents can enjoy their homes throughout the day and night.

Overall, the Hayyan residential development in Sharjah represents a thoughtful approach to modern living, combining cultural heritage with contemporary design. With its emphasis on community, comfort, and sustainability, this project is poised to enhance the living experience for its future residents.

The project is therefore designed as a multimodal space for family, individuals, and the wider community to be in contemplation together or as individuals.
