Lagos-based architecture and design firm, Collaborating Creatives Workshop (CCW), have revealed updated visuals for their ongoing apartment building in Lagos, ‘Courtyard Affairs’ as it progresses to site.

According to the Architects, the apartment building is their first project and the commencement of construction marks a milestone in the architecture & design firm’s continued effort to push the boundaries on sustainable architecture that improves lives in rapidly urbanizing areas. They describe it as an architectural prototype that transformation urban living and enhances quality of life within rapidly urbanizing areas.

We sought to and crafted a design that encourages social interaction and communal living by juxtaposing all individual apartment units efficiently. The final form is a play on volume, voids, and openings – to take advantage of natural elements such as wind, rain, and sunlight.

The Architects, approaching the design as a “communal living hub for occupants of all ages”, incorporates a key design strategy– Jenga stacking. The “Jenga stacking” arrangement of apartments maximizes space while fostering social interaction.

They also utilize passive sustainable features, including a raised roof with gutters for rainwater collection, openings for ventilation to release trapped hot air, and modular burnt clay blocks arranged to facilitate the movement of cool breezes, reducing the need for artificial cooling and creating a more comfortable living environment.
