South Africa-based architecture and design firm, Paragon Group, recently shared site progress images of one of their recently completed projects, 31 commerce.
The project is an A-Grade commercial development designed for Alchemy – an investment and property development company in South Africa. The 5000m² GLA development is located on 31 Commerce Crescent, Kramerville Creative District, Johannesburg, and is part of a series of A-Grade developments by Alchemy. Some of these developments, also in the Kramerville Creative district, have the prominent black brick facade like 31 Commerce.

Just like similarly named, 33 commerce, and 39 commerce, both located on Kramerville creative district, the development features a prominent modern black brick facade. While a brick facade may be seen as monotonous, this isn’t. At certain parts of the building, the bricks were extruded against its continuous face creating a modern 3-dimensional pattern.
This 3-dimensional pattern effectively contrasts with the glazed entrance and the continuous brick face. Part of the concrete façade was left uncovered with the black bricks. The result is a multi-textured building with a bold appeal.
