Nairobi-based Architects and Researchers, Cave Bureau has unveiled GBR – Geology of Britannic Repair as the curatorial theme for the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2025.
The exhibition, led by UK-Kenya team including Stella Mutegi, Kathryn Yusoff, Kabage Karanja, and Owen Hopkins, will explore the relationship between architecture and colonization as interconnected systems.

Focusing on the Great Rift Valley—a geological formation spanning from Turkey to Mozambique—the exhibition will challenge traditional notions of architecture. It will propose a shift toward non-extractive practices centered on repair, restitution, and renewal. Through installations and research, the curatorial team seeks to redefine architecture beyond its colonial legacy, fostering a dialogue on sustainability and historical accountability.

The British Pavilion at Venice 2025 promises to be a critical examination of architecture’s role in shaping cultural and geopolitical landscapes.
