In a report by Construction Review, from May last month, it was announced that construction work had commenced in Kenya on what will be Africa’s tallest building, aptly dubbed, The Pinnacle.
This was made known at the foundation laying ceremony, in Upper Hill Road Nairobi, where President Kenyatta laid the foundation stone for the record setting development. The 70 storey mixed-use twin tower was designed by Archgroup International (an architecture practice based in the UAE) in partnership with Kenyan Architects, Sketch Studio, and will feature a 45 storey Hilton hotel, high end offices as well as a luxury retail and entertainment complex. The development will also include 150 fully furnished high end apartments, and the continent’s highest helipad and viewing deck.
The Pinnacle, which is being developed by two Dubai-based investors, Hass Petroleum and White Lotus, is funded through equity and debt and will cost a total of US$ 194m. December 2019 is the date set for completion at which time the tower will stand at 300m, putting it in the league of some of the tallest buildings in the world.
