Local Works Uganda recently unveiled their latest project, the Pop-up Boma – a Bamboo Pavilion, showcasing the innovative use of bamboo in architectural design.
Shared on their social page, this bamboo pavilion is currently in use, demonstrating the material’s flexibility and its ability to redefine its surrounding landscape. Designed to create a canopy-like shaded sanctuary, the pavilion offers a serene space for users to relax after a long day of work.
The design process for the Pop-up Boma began as an in-house competition, allowing Local Works Uganda’s team to experiment with bamboo’s diverse applications. The result is a structure that harmoniously coexists with its natural environment, achieving one of the project’s primary goals.
Further insights into the pavilion reveal its intricate details, such as bundled-bamboo joinery, arched-geometric shapes, and an articulate ceiling/shingle roof. These features highlight the material’s versatility and the meticulous craftsmanship involved in bringing the pavilion to life.
