The LagosPhoto Festival, an international photography festival in Africa, has announced its transition to a biennale format starting with its 2025 edition.
Following its expansion to Benin in 2023, the LagosPhoto Festival, themed “Incarceration”, will explore “various dimensions of incarceration and will uncover the commonly understood physical imprisonment as well as the pernicious complexities of intellectual, psychological, and social confinement”.
According to organizers, this milestone edition will engage a team of curators from across Africa, working collaboratively and independently under the guidance of Azu Nwagbogu. Through workshops and mentorships, curators will collaborate with artists on the ‘Incarceration’ theme.
The event will also feature visual narratives reflecting on present realities and envisioning a liberated future, commissioned works exploring identity, thought, and space, and an open call for submissions.
The selected theme—‘Incarceration’—seeks visual stories that challenge the limits imposed on identity, thought, and space, offering new perspectives on liberation. Details of the open call will be announced soon.
