The 2024 Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) Symposium and General Assembly, held in Rwanda under the theme “Education, Policy and Practice: Advancing the Declaration on Sustainable Urbanisation in the Commonwealth,” came to a fitting climax.
The 3-day 2024 CAA symposium brought together architects from Commonwealth countries around the world to share ideas within the scope of the sub-themes: New Frontiers for Architectural Education, Design Sustainability and Urbanism, and Scale and Scalability.
The Symposium provided an opportunity for academia, practitioners, and policymakers to reflect on current progress and update plans to achieve the outlined Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Keynote speakers included Yasmeen Lari, the 2023 recipient of RIBA’s Royal Gold Medal in architecture, and Sasa Radulovic and Johanna Hurme, co-founders and managing partners of 5468796 Architecture.
In attendance at the event were the President of the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA), Arc. Adeniyi Mobolaji, Arc. Christie Agatha, and other notable Nigerian architects.
Following the CAA symposium, NIA President Arc. Adeniyi Mobolaji issued a call to action in her Facebook post, “From Kigali to Nigeria: A Call to Action for Architects,” urging Nigerian architects to leverage the country’s vast natural and human resources to build a nation reflecting its title, ‘Giant of Africa.”
“As Architects, we are not just designers but the drivers of change that Nigeria desperately needs.
