Multidisciplinary design studio Distill 2710 presents: Blue Cloth at 2019’s edition of the 1-54 African Art fair Lounge at Somerset House, London.
1-54 Art fair is the premiere art fair dedicated to the promotion of African Art in London. Tola Ojuolape founder of Distill 2710 designed and curated a pop up interior space for gathering, community collaboration & recharging in the midst of the fair. It serves as an immersive space showcasing & displaying blue & indigo hues inspired by the unique colours in Yoruba adire cloth in a contemporary manner.
Distill designed the interior and full branding design for the pop up and also collaborated with Nigerian Tapa’s brand Chuku’s for a unique street food experience for the duration of the fair.
Distill looked to the craftsmanship of cloth as a backdrop and source of inspiration with influences from the works of Nigerian Art Pioneer & Artist Chief Nike Okundaye. The tradition of using indigo for dyeing cloth is thought to be at least a thousand years old in West Africa. For this edition, we are also supported by leading furniture brands such as Verpan, Fritz Hansen & La Palma as well as Established & sons to enhance collaboration and accentuate the beauty and uniqueness of African art in Diaspora.
Blue cloth for 1:54 forms part Distill 2710’s ethos on collaboration, burgeoning interest and multidisciplinary approach to design across interiors, furniture and branding design.
