5 Inspiring Modern Living Room Ideas In This Project By Interiors With Tega

Every detail in a living room contributes to its overall ambiance and functionality. From subtle touches to bold elements, carefully chosen modern living room ideas can completely transform a space.

Nigerian Interior Designer, Interiors With Tega recently unveiled a stunning modern open-plan living room with noteworthy design features. From a muted colour palette to a kitchen island with a planter, discover with us 5 exceptional ideas that might make your space notable.

1. Muted Colour Palette

The living room is typically a space to lay back, relax and be entertained and a mute colour palette visually creates an environment for it. While some people prefer otherwise, a palette made up of neutral and earthy shades typically create this desired effect.

The colour palette for this space consists of muted shades of brown, cream, cappuccino and off-white creating a visually balanced and cohesive outlook suitable for a living room.

2. Indoor Planting

The underrated idea of integrating indoor plants into the general outlook of any space will never go out of style. This is because, planting brings life into any space, improves the air quality, softens the palette with a soft pop of colour and sometimes, creates a contextual relationship between the indoors and the outdoors.

This is one of the modern living room ideas that made a difference in this project. The designer placed different sizes of potted plants across the room on or beside certain elements. The most prominent is the kitchen island. In this case, the planter was integrated into the breakfast island to give the space a unique and innovative layer.

3. Material Accents

“Accents” refer to elements that add personality, interest or focus to a space. They typically complement the primary design and are often used to create contrast or highlight certain design features. There are different types of accents based on their function and style which can include colour, material and even lighting.

Interiors With Tega featured veined marble as an accent colour for this project in different elements across the space. It was used to highlight components such as the side table and coffee table in the seating area, the console at the entry point and the island in the open kitchen. The marble accent complements the general colour palette of the space and gives it a cohesive outlook.

4. Statement lighting

Statement lighting can be a key modern living room idea, offering more than just illumination. A striking pendant or a bold fixture can anchor the space, add depth, and reflect personal style. It’s an easy way to elevate the room’s design while creating a welcoming ambiance.

For this living room, the designer chose Wabi-Sabi pendant lights to make a subtle yet impactful statement. With their organic shapes and natural textures, these lights bring warmth and character to the space. They blend seamlessly with the minimalist decor while adding a touch of understated elegance.

5. Accent Furniture

An accent chair can instantly transform a living room, offering both style and functionality. It’s a perfect way to introduce contrast, texture, or a pop of color, enhancing the overall design.

In this living room, the designer opted for a dark brown accent chair that complements the space’s earthy tones. Its sleek design and rich color add depth and sophistication while blending harmoniously with the minimalist aesthetic. Placed strategically, it draws attention without overpowering the room.

These ideas are not just creative but also practical, offering endless inspiration for anyone looking to redesign their living space.
