South African Interior Designer, Donald Nxumalo, shared impressive images of a recently completed family home in Johannesburg.
According to Nxumalo, this family home design aimed to create a warm space that brings together the beauty of natural light and modern design – showcasing spaces with a perfect balance of elegance and simplicity. The designer explored a warm color palette with rich wood grains and the natural beauty of stone.
Looking at the spaces, the intentional use of materials and textures can be seen. Each material was used boldly and independently to create a homogenous composition, especially in the stylish and luxurious double-volume living room area.
His plan to explore the natural beauty of stone is evident in how he used it in the double-volume living room – especially on the noteworthy subdividing wall between the lounge and the dining area. It was extensively used alongside bold-grained wood and framed glass. In addition to this, the use of stone was explored in a dark shade as seen in the layered black marble coffee table set.
The modern open kitchen was created in collaboration with South African kitchen designer, Linear Concepts. Grey was predominantly used with textured wood as an accent material to establish a warm and somewhat natural ambiance that suited the design of this family home.
With careful attention to detail, the design creates inviting spaces filled with warmth and sophistication. Through thoughtful use of materials and textures, each room exudes a timeless charm, making it a welcoming retreat for its inhabitants. The home was completed after two years of design and construction work.
