The King David Pre-Primary School in Linksfield, Johannesburg is a 1700 sqm educational facility by Gregory Katz Architecture.
Completed in 2016, the design is inspired by the Reggio Emilio methodology making use of standardized precast concrete elements of varying shapes and sizes used to create window openings and hollow columns. These elements mimic the children’s building blocks and contribute to a fascinating play of light and shadows within the building, a nod to aforementioned Reggio methodology.
The facility, which can cater to about 500 children, houses 19 classrooms, a music room, media centre, performance space, therapy rooms and more.
