The WAF Skate Park, a custom-built skatepark in Lagos designed by Contemporary African Design Studio, Studio Contra, is a welcomed addition to the city. Located within Freedom Park, a heritage site with a rich colonial history, this custom-built skatepark is the first of its kind in the city.
Nigerian photographer, Olajide Ayeni captured the park’s unique design, which integrates mature trees preserved during construction to provide shade and dappled lighting.
Opened in 2010 after the transformation of the former colonial prison, Freedom Park has become a cultural hotspot. This custom-built skatepark in Lagos will host a variety of programs, including workshops, competitions, and art exhibitions, making it a vibrant community space.
