A DAY AT THE AFRICAN CULTURE AND DESIGN FESTIVAL 2017 (ACDF 2017)

Last updated:

[dropcap size=big]T[/dropcap]he IFI Congress and ACDF 2017 kicked off yesterday, (Thursday 9th October, 2017), and today being day 2 of the event we paid a visit to the much anticipated art and design pavilions. The theme of the festival, “This is Africa” is evident in the various installations and designs on display. From the series of ‘canopies’ that greet you at the entrance to the hall (which we learned where conceived by OCubed Designs), to the sit out areas and other open air installations, you get a sense of the wealth of creativity the festival seeks to showcase.

The ‘canopies’ designed and implemented by OCubed Designs, each make use of your everyday construction scaffold enveloped by unexpected materials such as rope and aluminium sheets set in bold, conspicuous colours and patterning, a blend of sorts between the traditional and the contemporary.

Within the hall, the pavilions showcase a variety of work from designers across the continent, some of which you’ve seen here on LivinSpaces. The likes of Damola Rufai’s Oya Chair as well as Tosin Oshinowo’s Ile Ila Collection. Asides from these two, there were some other items from the exhibition that caught our eye, like the bold and exquisite stools by Jomo Furniture, the Kube Collection from Oxygen Furniture as well as the elegant, sculptural furniture and lighting installations from Studio Lani. These among a vast array of art and design installations are all on display for public viewing so be sure to make out some time on Saturday and Sunday to visit, support and be inspired. In the meantime, you can look through some of what we saw Today at the exhibition.
