Last week Friday, we had the privilege of being a part of the inaugural edition of the Fusion of Real Estate, Interior Design and Art (FREIA 2017).
The event, which was touted as the biggest luxury event of the year, featured a well curated collection of traditional and contemporary art ranging from paintings to sculpture as well as indigenously crafted furniture pieces from popular Nigerian design houses like Ile Ila, IDesign by Tola Akerele, Design Sense, Agatha’s Interiors and Studio Lani.
The intimate event sought to establish the relevance and value of Nigerian art to our contemporary visual culture as well as an alternative asset class, exploring the synergy between the real estate, interior design and art industries while promoting their role in shaping the Nigerian society. Here’s a look at some of what we found to be most captivating.
THE [ART] EXHIBITION
From the new age to some of the most established names in Nigerian modern contemporary art, this component of the exhibition featured paintings, sculptures and installations which trace the stylistic development of modern art in Nigeria, while shedding a light on the development of new techniques around traditional media.
THE [DESIGN] EXHIBITION
The design component of the exhibition featured some familiar pieces we’ve come across on Livin Spaces as well as new pieces from some familiar names. From IDesign by Tola Akerele to Ile Ila and Studio Lani, the pieces on display showcased how far indigenous design has come as well as a glimpse into what the future for design holds.
