In this short film shot and conceptualised by Tatjana Meirelles Penfold, Greg Truen, a director in South African architectural practice, SAOTA, narrates the story of “Kloof 119a”, his private residence in Cape Town.
Greg Truen’s home explores indoor-outdoor living at the foot of Table Mountain, which formed the core of what the design sought to unlock. He sheds more light on this inspiration and how it informed the notable inverted pyramid roof. He cites the desire to be able watch the sun and moon move across the sky, and how one’s connection to nature is made more powerful with that experience.
As South Africans we love living outside. Its not like we need our houses to protect us from the environment around us,…….we actually want them to be filters that allow us engage in the landscape.
