Apartment Renovation in Vietnam by Le Studio Architects

Last updated:

Vietnam-based Le Studio Architects showcases a deft use of wood in this apartment renovation project of a 88+sqm, 2 bedroom apartment in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The architects and the client had agreed, based on their initial research, to not alter or modify the apartments structure, as it was already a limited, compact area which had fairly good spatial flow and functionality. As a result they sought to only improve on the existing layout by maximising daylight and ventilation. They also had to ensure an optimal furniture layout within the compact spaces to create comfort.

While functionality was important, the client were equally particular about the “spirit of the design” and requested the designers reuse items and materials from the previous home to help recall of sense of the familiar. The previous ceiling over the living and dining areas was stripped to reveal a raw, semi-polished concrete finish, which did well to contrast the prominent use of wood on the floors and the furniture. Le Studio were able to do all of this and achieve a balance and harmony that feels effortless, transforming an otherwise small space into a warm, open home.
