Roots Restaurant and Cafe Interior Design in Enugu and Abia State by Tola Akerele’s IDesign

Last updated:

Lagos-based interior design firm, IDesign by Tola Akerele recently shared with us an intriguing set of completed projects in Eastern Nigeria, specifically in Abia’s capital city Umuahia and in Enugu as well.

The projects involved simultaneous interior fit-outs for a celebrated African restaurant and cafe called Roots. The client’s desired aesthetic was something representative of African culture and heritage, which coincidentally is something of a signature style for IDesign.

They decided to go with what they term “Minimalist African” which would see clean open spaces infused with African accents. For a full four months of work, they had artisans ranging from carvers, carpenters, rope artists, bamboo specialists and muralists among others, working around the clock to churn out bespoke furniture pieces, wall hangings, window frames, ceiling installations and intricate door leafs, all of which would add the desired character to the various spaces within the locations. Take a look
