Perched on the banks of lake como, Italy, the Il sereno hotel designed by Milan based Patricia Urquiola showcases a luxury destination featuring a clean, simplistic design that embraces the idyllic surrounding environment.
Unlike the many hotels scattered around the famous lake, patricia urquiola‘s design of il sereno moves away from the faux renaissance and neoclassical style associated with the region to a more modernist contemporary style of architecture complemented by landscape greenery, most notably two vertical gardens draped along the face of the building. Inside the 30 spacious suites we find floor-to-ceiling windows, all with large private terraces facing onto the waterfront.
At the heart of the hotel, an original stairwell serves as one of many focal points around the property. Constructed with natural materials including walnut wood, the large steps are encased in bronze and effortlessly ‘float’ as the lobby’s centerpiece. Urquiola’s style and furniture collaborations is recognized throughout, resulting in a contemporary interior to foster a relaxed, peaceful sanctuary for guests.
