The recently concluded LAF 2017 was an engaging event that offered us, as an architecture and design platform, the opportunity to meet with various brands, professionals and organisations within the industry.
One of such organisations was Cromrite – a building solutions company that deals predominantly in dry construction materials and products. We were invited to tour their office nearing completion at No1 Dauda Kareem Street, Olungborogun, Chevron, Lekki, Lagos. The single storey office building is a showhouse of sorts, displaying and demonstrating the versatility and durability of dry construction in Nigeria.
Built entirely by Kalsi dry construction (a division of Nigerite), the structure has a 60 sqm footprint and is completely framed with light gauge steel sitting on a concrete raft foundation. The frame includes all the internal and external walls, a subfloor and the roof, all of which were insulated using glass wool.

The exterior of the building is clad with a blend of 6-8mm Kalsi cement boards and Kalsi planks, which are painted in what appears to be kalsi brand colours. The interior walls are finished with screeded and painted gypsum boards while the roof is finished flat shingles.
The entire project which kicked off back in September 2016, took a little less than 3 months to get to the near-completed stage in which it currently sits and cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of N14 million- N16 million (not including what Cromrite describe as a needlessly expensive foundation). The cost covers all other aspects of the building including utilities, finishes, fittings, tiling(for wet areas), windows and doors.
The cromrite office is a stellar example of what dry construction can achieve with regard to time, cost and quality. If you’re in the Lagos metropolis and you’re interested in visiting the office, to see and experience the space, feel free to get in touch with cromrite on
