Step Inside the Home of SAOTA Founder Stefan Antoni.

In this short film shot and conceptualised by Tatjana Meirelles Penfold, Stefan Antoni, the founder of South African architectural practice, SAOTA, narrates the story of “Beyond”, his private residence in Cape Town.

The founder and director of SAOTA describes it as “an experimental home”, featuring off shutter concrete, raw basic finishes, and a curved timber ceiling. He sheds light on the design process and the powerful connections to the landscape.

Situated on a steep site against the mountain reserve on Nettleton Road in Clifton, the multilevel home is essentially, a contemporary setting for life and art, where the full comfort of a modern home is potently married to an elemental architecture drawn from its dramatic setting. Its program is stacked vertically with the living & pool level situated on the uppermost double volume level. The lounge floats over the pool with a feature glass floor. Bedroom and entertainment spaces are arranged on the levels below.

I like building to have a sensuality to them, a certain surprise in them, and this house, I think, has a lot of delight in it.
