Paris based architecture firm, SCAU, just won the competition to design a 20000 seater football stadium in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, that will host the 2021 African Nations Cup. The stadium, Stade de Yamoussoukro is estimated to cost £50 million and is among the 6 stadiums that will be hosting the games.SCAU’s design features a single ring-shaped roof which will cover the spectator stands. Three of the stands are sunk into the ground, while the West stand will be raised on the hill. The stadium’s facilities, such as, the offices, changing rooms, food and press facilities will be located in the raised West stand.
As seen on Dezeen, the Architect’s plan is to build a stadium that is both “monumental and minimalist” and that would give the African country a “strong image” when the games are broadcast.
