Taking over a whole city block in the center of manila, BBH Singapore (in collaboration with Party New York, Birdman Tokyo and Jack Morton) designed and developed Nike’s ‘Unlimited Stadium’ – a pop-up arena that features ‘world’s first full-size LED running track’.
As the designer’s describe it, the Unlimited Stadium is a giant reimagined running track shaped as a 100-metre sole print of the Nike Lunar Epic – a newly launched NikeRunning footwear innovation. The stadium features a 200-metre running track lined with LED screens, where up to 30 runners at a time are invited to engage in a virtual race against avatars of themselves.
This is made possible by ‘hyper accurate RFID (Radio-frequency identification)’ tags that are attached to each runners shoes, tracking their initial lap time. On their 2nd lap, an avatar of the runner appears, running their previous time. If the runner beats the previous lap time, on their 3rd lap the avatar runs their new best time, thereby challenging runners to keep the pace and keep beating their previous times.
