The Cliff House by Modscape Concept Points To How Extreme Coastal Homes Could be built

Last updated:

This Home is not for the faint of heart. Designed by pre-fabrication specialists, Modscape, The Cliff House, is a theoretical response to client demands for design solutions tailored to extreme coastal sites in Australia.

The structure quite literally hangs of the face of a cliff using specially engineered steel pins driven deep into the rock, which keep all 5 stories of house attached to the cliff.

So lets dive in. Arriving at the Cliffs edge, the residents would drive into the car port /patio, parking their vehicle in one of 2 spots on the deck. They would then proceed to go down into the main living area of the house via the stairs or a lift (which connect all levels). From the living area, they can choose to nap in any of the 3 bedrooms of the house, each of which would have unrivaled and unparalleled views of the ocean and the horizon through massive floor-to-ceiling curtain walling separating them from the elements. For yet another breath of fresh air, an open-air deck area, with jacuzzi and a barbeque grill floats at the bottom level of the house, bringing you close (really, really close) to the crashing waves of the ocean below.

A very exciting (maybe too exciting) approach to coastal living, the cliff house does provide an innovative way to live in places otherwise seen as impossible to live in. Its simply planned, (even though i do worry about drainage and waste), and offers an efficient contemporary structure within which residents can “Hang out”.
