4 Different Ways to Completely Redesign a Room

Last updated:

Redesigning a room is the perfect way to breathe some life back into your home and bring about a fresh start. It can also add value to your property.

Completely redesigning your room goes beyond simply swapping out the curtains and adding a new lick of paint, though. You’ve got to go all-in; tear out the mangy carpets, throw away your old furniture, ectara. You might need to brush up on your interior design and architectural skills, too.

If you haven’t got a clue where to start, don’t worry. We’re here to help by providing four different ways to completely redesign a room. Keep reading if you’d like some ideas.

1.) Install New Flooring

The flooring in your home has a massive impact on the overall aesthetic of each room. By simply installing new floorboards, you can completely revolutionise your property’s current appearance. We recommend swapping out the downtrodden carpets for solid wood flooring to add some style and sophistication to your dining room or kitchen.

Solid wood flooring is a beautiful, timeless classic of interior design and can add significant value to your property. It is also a highly practical option, being durable and non-allergenic.

2.) Tear Down Walls

Rather than redesigning two separate rooms, why not join them together to create an entirely new living space? This is an excellent way to transform the current appearance of your property. It makes everything feel bigger and fresher than before, as you aren’t stuffed in between walls.

Some people choose to join the kitchen and dining room, whilst others might prefer to bring together the lounge and the conservatory. It’s up to you. Make sure to consult an architect before beginning the construction, though. You don’t want to destroy anything integral to the property’s structure, after all.

3.) Adding Windows

Nothing is worse than a dark and dingy home. If your rooms feel claustrophobic, it’s likely because they aren’t bringing in enough light. That’s why we recommend adding windows wherever is appropriate. Not only does this brighten everything up, but also breathes fresh air into your home.

You could install a skylight, add some bi-folding doors, or create a wall that is made entirely of glass. Your room will never look dark or boring again.

4.) Changing the Layout

Instead of drastic structural changes, you could try shaking up the layout of your room. Experiment with some different designs and find what you like the most. Don’t be tempted to shove everything into the corners of the room.

Instead, try creating several distinct areas with the space you have available. For example, you could tuck a reading nook behind the sofas in your lounge. To make changing the layout easier, we suggest drafting a room plan (like an interior designer would) and roughly sketching where things could go.

Now you know some different ways to change up the appearance of your home, get started. Make everything look bigger, brighter and more inviting than ever before.
