Maya Baklan Design Bureau recently completed the redesign and renovation of an 85 sqm, 1 bedroom, Stalin-era apartment with 3m ceilings which had not seen even minor repair work over the last three decades.
Despite the modest space, the designers sought to deliver the client’s brief which was “a space to impress the guests”. The clients desired the interior to live its own life, but to be easily updated by works of art, design novelties and antiquities. Paying tribute to the age of the building, the designers decided to expose the original brickwork in the living room, while in other common areas, an uber modern Klein Blue was specified as the prevalent colour in the shades of the sofa, the dining table, the closet doors and the bathroom vanity unit.
The bedroom features solemn off-black colors, combined with brass details in lighting and nightstands, rattan partition and wooden shutters which shield from city lights much better than curtains can do. The main bathroom with free-standing bathtub and window competes with the bedroom in its size and eccentricity.
