An Elegant Bow: The Dubai Opera House by Atkins is Inspired by the Traditional Wooden Dhow

A new cultural center emerges in the UAE with the Dubai Opera House designed by Atkins and developed by Emaar, just opposite the reigning “World’s Tallest Building” Burj Khalifa.

The Opera House is designed as a 2000 seater, multi-use facility to cater to operas (duh!!!) theaters, concerts, art exhibitions, orchestra, films, sports events and seasonal programmes all of which will have the very best of state-of-the-art audio-visual technology and support systems to ensure an unrivaled experience. Located right at the heart of the recently launched Opera district in Downtown Dubai, the form of the building draws inspiration from the classic wooden dhows that traditionally sail along the Arabian Gulf. The bow of the structure will house the Opera’s main stage, orchestra and seating areas along with a proposed sky garden and restaurants while the elongated hull cater to waiting areas, taxi-drop off and parking areas.
