Ashanti Design, a renowned African designer, has announced their involvement in the ‘Joy From Africa to the World’ campaign by V&A Waterfront. Specializing in handwoven lighting, Ashanti Design contributed to the festive installation, weaving a life-sized cable car symbolizing one of the seven wonders of the world, the Table Mountain Cable Car.
This festive installation is a part of the annual ‘Joy from Africa to the World’ (JFA) campaign, a sustainable, unique celebration of the festive season. This year’s theme, ‘Between the Mountain and the Sea‘, encapsulates the spirit of Cape Town, with its vibrant culture and iconic landmarks.
The JFA campaign collaborates with artists, makers, and illustrators every festive season to create large-scale installations across the neighborhood, bringing joy from Africa to the world. The installations pay tribute to Cape Town’s beloved landmarks such as the mountain itself, marine paradise, Cape Wheel, Clock Tower, colorful Bo-Kaap buildings, and Mouille Point lighthouse, along with the region’s unique fauna and flora.
Ashanti Design expressed their excitement and honor to be part of this installation, which they describe as a testament to how the fusion of innovation in African arts, crafts, and design can achieve sustainable success through a purpose-driven business approach.
Now celebrating its 5th year since its launch in 2019, the JFA campaign is a more relevant and representative festive season for Capetonians, South Africans, and international visitors to build cheerful memories around. It embodies the V&A approach to the festive season, proving that there is always a more joyful way of doing business.
