21-Storey Building Collapses on Gerrard Road in Ikoyi, Lagos, with Many Trapped.

At around 2:00pm today, Monday afternoon, one of three towers under construction on the site for a luxury housing development along Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos collapsed, trapping construction workers within.

Located at 44B, C & D Gerarrd Road, the development dubbed 360 degrees Ikoyi, comes from the stable of Nigerian real estate developer Fourscore Homes, and features three 15 storey towers currently under construction, though reports say the tower that collapsed was about 21 storeys high.

As at the time of writing this report, one person had been confirmed dead with between 30-50 people still believed to be trapped underneath the debris, including the CEO of Fourscore Homes, Femi Osibona.

Officials of the the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are currently on the ground and mobilising resources to ensure the rescue of those trapped in the debris of the collapsed building. Though rescue efforts were said to have been ongoing by resourceful workers on another part of the site prior to the arrival of the NEMA officials.
