A modernist composition of  concrete boxes that make for a bright, airy and fairly large 4+ bedroom family home in Even Yahuda, a small town in the central Sharon region of Israel.

Designed by Ron Shenkin Architecture (the studio behind this trio of cute wooden bungalows), the home is basically two rectangles placed perpendicularly atop one another, connected by a bare concrete strip acting as a ribbon of sorts, that wraps around the rectangles. This ‘concrete ribbon’ is supported on one end by a pair of red steel columns, that are a bit of an accent to the predominantly grey structure. Going inside, we find a basement with a large gym/games room as well as an en-suite bedroom. The ground floor, or lower rectangle, caters to an equally large open plan living area, complete with large open kitchen, as well as a media room, that could double as a study, office or small bedroom with an adjoining bathroom.

The top rectangle, or first floor, which sits in an east to west orientation, is the private area of the home. It offers two mid siezed bedrooms that share a large bathroom and the master suite complete with walk-in closet. Aside from just housing functional spaces, the top rectangle forms the roof over the entrance below and a balcony over the living area that overlooks the outer garden and surrounding landscape. There’s also a large atrium that connects both levels at the dining area, allowing for eye contact and communication virtually through out a large area of the home.

The high ceilings as well as the aforementioned atrium allow for effective cross ventilation, while large, floor-to-ceiling windows admit natural light which permeate the entirety of the home. This is, however, regulated by an automated system which is connected to all the window blinds installed in the house.
