Kelly Wearstler’s Proper Hotel blends styles, colours, patterns and textures

Proper Hotel in San Francisco is a fascinating mix-match of colours, textures and patterns. Designed by American designer, Kelly Wearstler, the hotel’s interiors is a combination of different styles – modernism and victorian, blended with features that creates it’s artsy and sophisticated look. From the eclectic blend of framed pictures and artworks in the lobby and lounge, notable furniture pieces from “various European design movements”, to a seemingly unrestrained layering of patterns and colours, the hotel presents an expression of bold interior design.

Located in an historic building spanning 7 storeys, some of the notable spaces in the 131 room San Francisco hotel includes, the main lounge and lobby (as seen above and below), the Villon restaurant, a dining area called “The Gilda’s”, the rooftop bar and an outdoor area – Charmaine’s.

Most of the walls are painted white allowing the furniture pieces and colourful decorations to pop. Where they aren’t painted white, prints are used, or they are painted some other colour. Every space in the Proper Hotel has a unique look, including it’s 131 guest rooms, but each is connected to the other by the hotel’s characteristic rich blend of textures. The spaces are sensual, and fascinating, and are a work of art themselves.
